So, about Jenny Everywhere and a “lack of appearance”
It occurs to me that a lot of the creative projects that people do involving Jenny Everywhere tend to peter out and fade away. That’s just the way of the internet, probably. There are so many tiny niche projects that don’t really find an audience and just kind of disappear.
Anyway, I hope the thing I’m going to start soon will be an exception. I don’t know if I’m going to keep it up; I’m definitely taking some risks here. I guess we’ll just have to see.
I would assume more than the “romance” of Jenny Everywhere is usually short-lived, unless someone actually has a passionate use for her.
Rarely she is in her own comic for the long haul. When she was first born, she was always just in short stories, and they were perfect snipets.
Where people tend to get the MOST out of her, for longer runs, is when she is a supporting character in an existing property. Whether she is a long-term primary, secondary, or tertiary character, or only around for a single storyline or arc.
My belief in that AND for why she tends to be short lived in other methods, is because she is uncopywritable (overall, though people still own their individual Jenny Everywhere characters), and people probably want something that is moreso their own.
Back to the “romance” thing. There were two major spikes of popularity for Jenny Everywhere… Well, maybe three. This is when there where a larger number of comic creations of her. Not just art.
The beginning, of course, and then when The Shifter Archive came into existence and kicked up a huge amount of space-time dust.
You could also suggest that when Warren Ellis found her and had an art competition with her, but I don’t think any new comics actually came out with her.
I know I’ve essentially stopped doing things with her because I’m so busy with too many things, but I still see her being used in SOMETHING at any given point. Either as an on-hoing character in a comic, or some new random art.
Not to mention the yearly birthday at www.JennyEverywhereDay.com.
While it would be nice to see another spike in actual comic creation using Jenny (and while I have a few plans to try an initiate something, I just don’t have the time/money), she still seems to pop up somewhere now and again by random, and that’s awesome.
